Umbilical Cord Care

  • Keep cord outside the pamper
  • Always keep it clean and dry
  • Clean with soap & water if soiled
  • Use alcohol swabs 2-3 times daily if needed
  • Falls off naturally in 5-10 days
  • Consult doctor if red, smelly or not fallen in 14 days

Prevention of Nappy Rash

  • Change nappy frequently
  • Dry the area properly and expose to air 10-15 mins
  • At least 2-3 times a day air drying
  • Apply Petroleum Jelly or Zinc Oxide cream on rash

Bathing the Baby

  1. 1. Wait 24 hours before first full bath
  2. 2. Clean neck & body with warm water + mild soap
  3. 3. Gently wash head with baby shampoo, avoid eyes
  4. 4. Use damp cloth for face, never pour water directly
  5. 5. Use only gentle baby products

Massage of the Baby

  • Giving massage to the baby is a good practise.
  • Any organic oil can be used.

Hair Removal

  • Baby head can be shaved by 2-3 days of life with clean razor under aseptic conditions.

Care of Eyes

  • Eyes should be cleaned with cotton dipped in water.
  • If you notice any discharge, stickiness or redness of eyes, kindly consult your doctor.

Circumcision

  • Can be done on 2-3rd day of life.
  • Can be done on the 1st day of life, but make sure the baby is stable, feeding well and has passed urine and stool.

Vaccination

  • Babies should be vaccinated after birth as soon as possible.
  • (Oral polio drops and Injections of BCG and Hep-B).
  • Kindly follow and complete vaccinations of your baby per doctor / governmental instructions / timetable.
